MV Hondius Brote de Hantavirus — 2026

A finales de abril de 2026, se identificó un grupo de casos de Virus Andes entre pasajeros y tripulantes del MV Hondius, un crucero que operaba en el Atlántico Sur. Por Qué Este Brote Es Inusual

El Virus Andes es el único hantavirus con transmisión persona a persona documentada. Todas las demás cepas de hantavirus — incluido el virus Sin Nombre (el más común en EE. UU.) — requieren contacto directo con excretas de roedores infectados y no pueden propagarse entre humanos.

El grupo de casos del MV Hondius es el primer brote conocido de hantavirus a bordo de un buque y el mayor grupo documentado de transmisión persona a persona del Virus Andes. La OMS ha confirmado que la transmisión ocurrió por contacto estrecho entre pasajeros y tripulantes, no por exposición a roedores.
